Overview

The SRC (Sports Recreation Club) currently offers sports or rock climbing at the school’s rock wall.   The pupils will first be trained on overall physical conditioning in the first few CCA sessions.

Subsequently, they will gradually be trained in wearing harnesses and helmets. They will then be allowed to practise simple bouldering on the low section of the rock wall.

In progressive manner, the pupils will be allowed to try climbing first to a wall level about double their physiological height, before progressing to higher levels of the wall.

Later, the pupils will be allowed to try belaying techniques. The older and more competent pupils will be allowed to try belaying their fellow pupils up to the red line of the wall level (roughly twice the physiological height of a pupil).

There will also be periodic introduction of new games like floorball, touch rugby or tcoukball. These games will depend on the availability of resources eg. coaches.

Teachers-in-charge

Nur Azyyati (Ms), Fiona Yoong (Ms), Peter Kok. The teachers-in-charge are subject to deployment changes by the school.

Training Day

The sessions will take place during the CCA days (currently Wednesdays, from 0930 to 1130hrs). The meeting venue will be at the rock wall (next to the garden, adjacent to the canteen).

Programmes

Thus far, the pupils have participated in demonstration climbs for Chinese visitors from our collaborative exchange schools. In 2009, they also performed one for Minister, Dr Ng Eng Hen during his visit to Poi Ching School in May.
